Memorial Day Weekend

More than just a day to head to the beach, watch a movie, or have a backyard cookout, Memorial Day has its origin in 1866. Originally known as Decoration Day, the holiday honored those who dies serving the Union during the Civil War. After the First World war, the holiday was changed to commemorate all who died serving in the armed forces of the US. Memorial day was first celebrated as a national holiday in 1971.

To “celebrate” the holiday, Suzanne and I wrote to, and sent care packages to soldiers deployed in Afghanistan.

Suzanne and I took the weekend off to enjoy the weekend. Around soccer and yoga class, we got some housework, and assorted errands done. The highpoint of the weekend was enjoying the fire pit Sunday night.

As a spur-of-the moment decision, we invited some people over on Saturday, and had a quiet evening on Sunday with our friends Wendy, and Shea. Once the sun went down, we lit our tiki torches, as well as the fire pit, at sat on our new park benches. It wouldn’t be an evening around the fire pit without smores, accompanied by wine and beer.
