Family reunion at the Jersey Shore

A few weeks ago, I drove up to Cape May Point for a family vacation with Mom, Bruce, Isaac, Grandma, Pete, Rebecca, and Miriam. Mom and Bruce rented a very nice and spacious house right on the Jersey Shore. It was great to hang out with family. The highlight of the trip was visiting Woodbine, NJ, the ancestral home of my maternal grandfather’s family. We were greeted like celebrities at the Sam Azeez Museum of Woodbine Heritage (http://www.thesam.org/) which is housed in the town’s former synagogue. Evidently, my maternal grandfather’s family (the Chasens) were well known in the Woodbine Jewish community. Then, we drove to the old Woodbine Jewish cemetery where I saw the resting places of many family members. My maternal great grandparents came to the US from Eastern Europe, my maternal grandfather grew up in south NJ, parents in Ohio, me in Texas, and my future children will grow up in North Carolina. When you come from a family that moves every generation, it is pretty neat to see where your roots are.
